When your dad used to pick your corduroy pants
some objects are there to change the memory of them.
There are some textiles in life that leave deep impressions.
My first and, until recently, last experience with corduroy was a winter visit with my father to buy me a pair of pants for the cold season, at Gap. Corduroy was not one of my favorites, not at all, but my dad thought it was a warm fabric for winter and he wasn't wrong. The pair was beige-brown corduroy trousers, slightly flared with a detail that would ultimately be the deciding factor in my purchase, a fine lining of pink flowers inside. I remember being sad that no one would be able to see the beautiful inside of the trousers, but it delighted me so much that it was enough. To this day, the inside of a garment makes me just as happy as the outside. Last seen at Peter Do, mind you.
20 years later, I found this corduroy skirt in front of me, with an unusual silhouette. Low waist, wide at the top and tight at the bottom. I don't think I've ever worn a tight skirt that made me feel so comfortable (Hervé Léger girls listen up).
Another piece that was added to my wardrobe last month, heavily influenced by my friend Umut, who you know from my Patreon video, is a workwear jacket from Carhartt. Another childhood anecdote, sorry for the nostalgia. One of the first pieces of clothing I bought myself was a pair of Carhartt cargo shorts. The long pants were a bit more expensive, so I opted for a pair of shorts that I wore in winter with knee high socks. In retrospect, it was one of my favorite teenage looks.
Anyway, I've been looking for a short jacket for a very long time, after years of obsessively searching for and buying coats only. I looked at Loewe, Alaia and Bottega, just to find a model that I actually liked. And honestly, my search just ended at carhartt. The coloring, the material, the thickness, I think one of my most logical purchases this year. Of course heavily inspired by Prada Spring 24, but Prada is also heavily inspired by Carhartt so it's a full circle.
I usually only feel comfortable in a look when there's some kind of discrepancy or imbalance and I think a workwear jacket is the perfect piece if you have a wardrobe of extreme textures and patterns. You have one right?
