The benefits of a simple coat.
No statement coats, you just need to know if it’s double- or single breasted.
There are days when I long for normality.
And by that I don't mean a completely normal look, things that I have thrown on without a second thought. Because normality has its stubbornness, it's not that easy to portray, it just looks like it.
What makes normality so special, so desirable? Its simplicity or the assumption that the foundation of beautiful banality is only the self-confidence of the wearer? I wonder whether the person who chooses a uniform really finds the simplicity of dressing desirable or is just hiding behind another avoided decision.
I like uniforms, but I don't see them as a great skill, there is no talent behind deciding not to make another decision. This is not like fasting or abstinence, it takes no work not to make a decision.
It is much more difficult to implement simplicity with deliberation. Something that looks simple, but isn't, because it's complicated to express some complexities simply, like haiku poems, expressing so much with so few words.
I always think all these things to myself when I want to go for a simple look. But I usually don't allow myself to go for a simple look, because that wouldn't be any fun.
So at this time of the year, or can I call it mid-season because the days are getting a little longer, I opt for a coat.
Not too thick, not too thin.
But long for the sake of simplicity, so that the look underneath becomes relatively irrelevant.
To add a little absurdity to the normality of the coat, because this is our bread and butter, an old shoe that could have come from Pierre Hardy, but it's Prada.
This is just a reminder to love simplicity, but to never make it simple.
Have a great week and enjoy your complexities, they’re part of you <3
