The secret trick of
transitional dressing.
Nobody talks about this and it's really scary how easy it is.
It goes like this: there is no trick.
You will be too cold or too warm, you can't have the best of both worlds, except for a big tote bag which is ready to get packed with the sweater you just went out with or the sweater to be taken out again. That tote bag will absolutely destroy your whole look, because as practical as they are, they inhabit too much volume for this tiny body that carries them proudly around and if there are any great options, please show me (no answer of people taller than 1,75m required).
It's the season of the schlepp.
This sounds more dramatic than it is, but my years in dressing have proven to me that it's always a compromise on either your body temperature or your comfort and we're in the year of comfort from now on and I am ready to sacrifice a tiny bit of look. If you are in your stylistic zodiac era of pulling looks still, that's good for you, stay there as long as you can, it's a one-way road and once you get cozy you never go back.
What got me out of my winter sleep was a little package from Lithuania with the incredible work of emerging designer Vilte Savickaite, who crafts all her pieces by hand, including braiding and stapling them. This process takes hours and days of work and results in highly made unique pieces that are inspired by local crafts and a love for sustainable work. One of these pieces is the skirt/belt that I wore here. Funny side story, the belt arrived in a vintage white cotton pillow case. The belt is a very dark brown, so I thought a brighter background serves it well. I am wearing a pillowcase here underneath. To keep it slightly warmer I wore, probably for the first time, a great vinted Prada find, the FW23 sweater and did not add the required t-shirt underneath. In a case without a camera pointing to my face, I would have chosen a loose white t-shirt.
Even if the look by itself seems fairly fresh, a big size coat saves the deal. I chose one that had a fleece-like finish and it served like an oversized duvet.
I don't think we can trick the seasons too much, making us look more summery than it is, we just have to commit to what we want to go for, but the moment temperatures start to allow tiny tricks,
we can slowly start to get rid of the heat-techs and tights underneath and exchange them with beautiful fabrics.
